Curriculum

At Kids ‘R’ Kids, we are proud of our new accredited curriculum.  While continuing to promote the traditional philosophy of “when we play, we learn”, the Kids ‘R’ Kids curriculum meets or exceeds state, national and accreditation standards for AdvancED.   Based on clearly defined expectations for child learning and promoting active involvement of children in the learning process, the curriculum provides instructional strategies, innovations and activities that are based on research and are reflective of best practice to facilitate achievement for all children.  Written for multiple age groups (2-2 ½ years, 2 ½ - 3 years, 3 – 3 ½ years, preschool and kindergarten), the curriculum includes experiences that meet children’s individual needs and stimulate learning in all developmental areas – language, cognitive, physical, aesthetic and social-emotional. 

The individual aspect:  Each child is viewed as a unique person with an individual pattern and timing of growth and development.  Accommodations are suggested for children with special needs.  The curriculum challenges each child to excel, reflects a commitment to equity and demonstrates an appreciation for diversity. 

The language aspect:  Infused with an abundance of activities to develop language and literacy through meaningful experiences, the curriculum provides opportunities for listening to and reading stories and poems; dictating stories; seeing print in use; participating in dramatic play and experiences requiring communication; talking informally with other children and adults; and experimenting with writing by drawing, coping and inventing their own spelling.  

The cognitive aspect:  Learning about math, science, social studies, health and other content areas is integrated through meaningful activities such as those in which children build with blocks, measure sand, water or ingredients for cooking; observe changes in the environment; work with wood and tools; sort objects for a purpose; explore animals, plants, water, wheels and gears; and draw, paint and work with clay.   While large and small instructional groupings are incorporated, play activities allow children to learn from self-directed problem-solving and experimentation opportunities.  Additionally, our curriculum incorporates instructional technology to support our curricular program. 

The physical aspect:  Outdoor activities are planned so children can develop large-muscle skills as they learn about outdoor environments and express themselves freely.  Children have daily opportunities to develop small-muscle skills through play activities such as pegboards, puzzles, painting, cutting and other similar experiences. 

The aesthetic aspect: Children are given daily opportunities for expression and appreciation through art and are encouraged to experiment with and enjoy various forms of music. 

The social-emotional aspect:  Children develop an understanding of concepts about themselves, others and the world around them through observation, interaction with people and real objects and seeking solutions to concrete problems.   Interactions and activities are designed to develop children’s self-esteem and positive feelings toward learning. Our curriculum also provides for active family involvement. 

Fully aligned between all age levels of the school,  our curriculum provides for smooth transitions as children move up in age groups to help ensure the quality learning continues throughout the child’s Kids ‘R’ Kids experience.
